WE’RE PASSIONATE ABOUT EDUCATION HERE AT MX DISPLAY. CREATING GREAT LEARNING SPACE IS SOMETHING WE’RE DEDICATED TO HELPING SCHOOLS, COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES WITH.

Over the years, we’ve worked on some great education projects and are always pleased to share our advice and expertise on making budgets work harder to create a fantastic environment for learners, because we firmly believe that great learning takes place in great learning space.

Here are a few of our favourite ideas from the projects we’ve delivered and our top tips on how you can adapt them to your own project, to inspire great learning:

1) THE PERIODIC TABLE

When Ashby School wanted help in revamping the internal design and layout of its maths and science departments, we were only too happy to step in and help. The centrepiece was the creation of a huge, wall-sized periodic table, aimed not only at providing a visual learning resource for pupils, but also to bring the subject to life and inject a bit of personality into the learning space. While a periodic table might not fit your needs exactly, there are other things you can consider, using the same approach – history timeline walls, iconic literary quotes or famous mathematical equations, for example, can all have the desired effect, if executed in the right way.

2) MAGNA CARTA WINDOWS

We were invited by the Derby Law School to design and create a range of wall graphics and wayfinding solutions within its new building in the heart of the city. We used a combination of stainless steel and edge-lit acrylics for the wayfinding strategy, which comprised a ‘floor summary’ on each of the building’s six levels, made from a sandwich of orange edge-lit acrylic and hi-gloss white perspex. However, it was the ground floor hub in which our creativity came to the fore. Home to several offices, all requiring varying levels of privacy, we took our inspiration from the Magna Carta, the document which became the foundation for English law, in 1215 AD. By reproducing some of the iconic text in window film and wall coverings, we were able to reflect the building’s historical location and connect it to the school’s primary function. It can be branded with any design to create a bespoke creative solution to whatever your requirement.

3) WAYFINDING AND OUTDOOR MEDIA

Charnwood Campus approached us to design, produce and install a full suite of outdoor wayfinding and decorative graphics. The science-focused business park is set within beautiful grounds with lush green plants, ponds, lakes and trees and is home to over 20 buildings and a network of roads and car parking. Following its rebrand, we were tasked with delivering wayfinding to cover existing graphics, plus new, additional directional signage and decorative graphics. We aligned our designs to company brand guidelines using specific colour references and typefaces with consideration to future signage planning. It was a very specific brief, but highlighted how, from concept to completion, we can manage your outdoor media project.

4) “PURE CORE”

Brooksby Melton College recently underwent an exciting £27.7m redevelopment. As part of this project, we were invited to design and deliver a wayfinding strategy over two campuses that promised to align the sites with a consistent style and brand feel. The signage strategy followed our ‘critical information’ method of analysing when information should be delivered and how it can be best communicated in its simplest form, using colour coding or pictographs. Much of the wall mounted signage used our innovative product ‘Pure Core’ which was perfect for this type of project, both inside and out. Pure Core protects against temperature induced warping and its surface is highly durable, making it perfect for use in busy areas where it may get knocked or bumped, but also in places where it will need to be able to stand-up to the elements.

5) WATER WALL

It’s not just schools, colleges and universities we do in educational sector. When the central laboratory at Anglian Water received a full branded facelift, we delivered an impressive visitor experience and positive workspace for staff which included key facts and figures about the water industry, along with company messages. Working closely with award-winning marketing agency Artisan Creative, we produced colourful imagery and a vast range of solutions including FabriGrab™, acrylic, magnetic glass wipeboards, wallpapers, one-way window film and vinyl. We combined our revolutionary FabriGrab™ product with stand-off acrylic to create a fabulous 3D-effect up the client’s huge staircase. And by using cleverly located up-lighting, the acrylic graphics cast beautiful shadows over the tensioned fabrics, providing a real focal point and a wow factor for visitors to the laboratory, to help them learn more about the work that takes place there.
