WE PULL OUT ALL THE STOPS FOR TREETOPS

Our local hospice Treetops is a charity that is close to our hearts, providing nursing care and emotional support for adults and their families in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. We wanted to use our latest products and decorative acoustic panels to brighten their walls as a gesture of thanks for their outstanding hard work and wonderful care.

We first contacted their marketing team back in December 2019 to offer our services and creative skills. We visited their space to discuss the areas they’d like to change or they felt needed some improvement. Our Senior Creative and Marketing Manager listened carefully to the staff at Treetops to understand the care they provided and where they felt we could make the most difference. We wanted our donation of wall graphics and decorative acoustic panels to really make an impact, so we chose the two largest walls in each of their buildings to create our wow factor. Our studio team came up with several ideas to transform the two walls that would promote their brand and be sensitive to the purpose of the buildings.

THE WELLBEING SPACE

The purpose built Wellbeing Space was completed in 2010 and it was officially opened by the Duchess of Gloucester. This valuable facility offers end-of-life care and support to up to 115 people each week. The large wellbeing space enjoys high ceilings and large windows that offer stunning views into the wonderful gardens. The largest wall curves over eight metres from the reception area into the kitchen space. Reaching over three metres tall, we chose this wall to bring the garden inside. We designed a bespoke illustration of silver-birch trees and birds. We chose colours to complement their existing decor and furniture, using muted sage greens and soft lilacs. The size of the wall and durability required led us to recommend our One Wall product, a one-piece, block-out wallpaper which – unusually – had to be printed in three pieces due to the impressive scale of the wall. It is surface washable and resistant to light bumps and scuffs.

THE CHEETHAM CENTRE

This light and spacious Clinical Support Centre opened in 2014, named the Cheetham Centre after founder Cally Cheetham. It contains five adult bereavement counselling rooms and three bespoke family, children and young people rooms. Benefitting from high ceilings and striking glass frontage, this open-plan lobby space greeted visitors with a large plain wall and suffered with a little sound bounce due to the number of hard surfaces. We recommended some of our decorative acoustic panels to add colour and reduce the echoey nature of the space. Autex Cube comes in a wide range of 17 colours, two thicknesses and is available with a peel and stick backing for a super-easy application. Our studio team created a dramatic tree design that stretched over the doors and archways all the way to the top of the ceiling. The leaf shape and colours have been carefully chosen to reflect part of their new brand identity that will be launched later this year.

The Coronavirus pandemic slowed our progress through 2020, but we were keen to pick up the pace once things began to reopen. We installed the custom printed wallpaper and decorative acoustic panels in January 2021 and hope it will make a lovely surprise for the day visitors when they return to this incredible facility. We loved working on this community project with the Treetops Team and making a difference to both the staff and their visitors.

Treetops Head of Counselling, Jules Kirk, said “We can’t wait to welcome our counselling clients back on site for them to see and enjoy the new designs and installations. The tree design in the counselling centre provides a warm welcome for those coming to the hospice for support during a very difficult time.”
